George Walton 1867 - 1933 Born into the thick of Glasgow's avant garde, George Walton absorbed from his brother E. A. Walton and the other 'Glasgow Boys' the painterly influence of the hero Whistler, and from his sisters a respect for the decorative arts. In 1888, following William Morris, the young George founded his own work shop-based decorating company, and was a formative influence on the distinctive Glasgow Style Attended the Glasgow School of Art. In 1888 he was commissioned to redecorate Miss Cranston's tea rooms along with Charles Rennie Mackintosh. |
